War Enthusiasm Grips America

NATO says its membership pledge to Georgia stands

The lead story everywhere today is the conflict in Georgia.

That alone is proof what a bad idea NATO expansion, and even NATO continuance, after the collapse of the Cold War has been.

The US has not the least good reason to meddle in this affair.

But the atmosphere of crisis and the astonishing calls for war all work to the advantage of the Republicans in this election.

How close to war will they dare to take us, just to legitimate their talk about our need for a war president and to provide an appearance of necessity for GW’s war crimes, his crimes against humanity, and his many and manifold violations of the Constitution?

See this.

Pat Buchanan sagely opposed NATO expansion, and has even urged its dissolution.

Is he on the Republican bandwagon, now?

Today’s column is a lot of stuff about abortion.

Somebody better tell the Democrats if they don’t want war they need to quit supporting alliances whose sole function is to drag us into wars all over the globe for causes not our own in interests not our own, at costs only a madman would be willing to bear.

Despite McCain’s belligerent stupidity, NATO should not put one boot anywhere near any of this.
